About Patrick J Antonelli
My name is Patrick Antonelli and I am a professor of Otolaryngology, Neuroscience, and Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the University of Florida. I completed undergraduate, medical school, graduate school, and otolaryngology residency training at the University of Minnesota. After fellowship training in neurotology and skull base surgery at the Michigan Ear Institute, I joined the University of Florida. I served as Chair of Otolaryngology 2004 – 2022 and previously served as assistant dean for clinical informatics and Shands HealthCare Chief Medical Information Officer. I wanted to be a carpenter, but my mother pushed me to attend college. I enjoyed and excelled in biological sciences, leading me to medical school. One chance opportunity after another eventually led me to do research on ear infections. Residency in otolaryngology and fellowship in otology & neurotology were the end result. I am driven to try to improve patient care. This guides my clinical care and research efforts. It also results in a high bar for the residents, fellows, and students that I train. I sincerely want to help patients achieve optimal outcomes with their ear care. I am a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, the Triological Society, the American Neurotology Society, and the American Otological Society. I am proud to have given over 200 invited scientific presentations. I have also authored over 200 scientific publications and book chapters. I maintain a busy neurotologic practice and an active research program that is focused on otologic implant infections, prevention of iatrogenic hearing loss, ototoxicity, and medication safety. I have been lucky enough to be recognized with numerous awards for teaching, research, and clinical service.
I also enjoy spending time exploring all the world has to offer with my incredible wife & kids, kayaking & paddle-boarding, and tinkering around my home.
