Dr. William O. Collins named chairman

Dear College of Medicine community,

Please join me in congratulating William O. Collins, M.D., FACS, FAAP, who will serve as the next chair of the UF College of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology.

William O. Collins, MD
William Collins, Professor & Chairman, College of Medicine – Department of Otolaryngology

Dr. Collins joined the UF College of Medicine faculty in 2006 as division chief of pediatric otolaryngology, providing training to residents and fellows, medical students and staff. He has served as the residency program director for nine years and has led the division’s operating room management as surgical director for the past five years, in addition to caring for patients in a busy clinical practice.

Dr. Collins is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and a recipient of the College of Medicine Exemplary Teacher Award. He was recognized by the department of pediatrics for contributing to an “Outstanding Achievement for Medical Student Education.”

He earned his medical degree from the University of Miami, where he also completed a residency in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery and a fellowship in rhinology and advanced endoscopic sinus surgery. He then completed an additional fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining the faculty of the UF College of Medicine, Dr. Collins was an assistant professor at the Children’s National Medical Center/George Washington University school of Medicine.

The department of otolaryngology ranks 32nd nationally in the current U.S. News & World Report subspecialty rankings for Ear, Nose and Throat. In his new role as chair, Dr. Collins will work closely with the faculty, trainees and staff to develop a strategic plan to allow the department to continue on a trajectory of excellence.

The College of Medicine community is thrilled to welcome Dr. Collins into his new leadership position.

Best,
Dean Koch
